ABOUT ME

KARYN THOMPSON

Artist Profile

I graduated from The Australian National University with Honours majoring in Sculpture in 2001.

After graduating I worked as an artist for a couple of years exhibiting, before I made the decision to return to full time work in architecture, moving to Brisbane QLD in 2003, then back to Canberra in 2009.

Relocating to the far South Coast of NSW in December 2015 has finally allowed me the time and space to focus on my art practice once more.

Since January 2017 I have been focusing on Australian Eucalypts.

The Scribbly Gum in particular has become an obsession of mine and was  the primary focus of my work produced for "Small Mysteries" - a joint exhibition with Leah-Kate Hannaford at The Altenburg & Co. in Braidwood NSW. This subject matter was further explored in my most recent exhibitions at Ivy Hill Gallery, Wapengo, NSW.

I have a few ideas under development for future Sculptures and I hope to share them soon.
